Bryce Jon May

Bryce Jon May, son of Tony and Mary Jane (Rasmussen) May, was born in Audubon on June 26, 1948 and passed away gently on August 12, 2006 at home in Grand Junction, Michigan with his beloved dogs Winston and Ginger, and his partner of twenty years at his side. Bryce grew up on the family farm in Greely Township, Audubon County, Iowa. The farms were not large by today’s measure but were diversified and largely self-sufficient. On the May farm Bryce learned many valuable skills. He loved to “tinker” and his inventiveness seemed limitless. After attending the country school in Greely, he graduated from Exira High School in 1966. From hometown, Exira, Bryce began his studies at Iowa State University. He then began serving his country in the United States Navy. After discharge, Bryce did some traveling – a favorite and integral part of his life - incorporating some entrepreneurial ventures along the way. Bryce settled in Grand Junction, Michigan, where he completed his degrees at nearby Western Michigan University while simultaneously launching a computer consulting business whose main client was the nuclear power industry where his focus was in the areas of nuclear and health physics. Bryce had some safety concerns and decided to set a goal: Writing and developing (little did he know) cutting edge computer systems and software much of which is the “industry standard” and continues keeping us safe today. Bryce was a proud and very active member of the Democratic Party; member of the Lion’s club; served two terms as Columbia Township Treasurer and played the organ at the First Congregational Church in Grand Junction Bryce is survived by his brother Brad and wife Mary Joe May of Atlantic, Iowa; 3 nieces: Kimberly, Michelle, and Johanna; 3 nephews: Seth, Daniel, and David; surviving Aunts and Uncles Harriett and Howard Schroeder and Dorothy Rasmussen, uncle “Pete” Nelson; Great Nieces and Nephews; many Cousins; and numerous Friends (many of whom “adopted Bryce into their families” both here and abroad. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Grand Junction, Michigan on September 16, 2006 at 11:00am. Contributions may be made to the Church’s organ scholarship fund or the South Haven Area Democrat Club which played a very important in Bryce’s life. Arrangement by Bangor Chapel, D. L.
