Daniel Farmer

Daniel Layne Farmer passed away August 21, 2026, at his new home in Boerne, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born on November 11, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, to his devoted and caring parents Joseph Ellis Farmer and Katharine Marie LaRosa Walters Farmer. Dan graduated from Wichita East High School, then attended Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. While in band at ORU, he met his future wife Lynne Murray Conklin. They were married in the Hartford Methodist Church in Hartford, Michigan, by Rev. Morrie Reinhardt on December 21, 1970. Dan was a music lover and a highly accomplished trumpet player. While at ORU, he was a founding member of Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity. He also played 2nd trumpet in the Tulsa Philharmonic. After graduating from ORU, Dan was offered a full-ride scholarship for his Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance at Western Michigan University (WMU), which he received in 1975. Following the completion of his Masters Degree, Dan was the band director at Lawrence Public Schools for 5 years. He also played for many years in the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Festival, and the Messiah. Music was a big part of Dan’s life, beginning in 6th grade when he started band and trumpet lessons with Cliff Sproul. After retiring as a professional trumpet player, Dan discovered the Casco Band in his later years. He continued his love for music as a prominent trumpet player and director of the Casco Band. Dan also shared his love for music with many church congregations over the years, as he participated in, and led, praise & worship teams for various churches. His home church was the Bangor Church of Christ in Bangor, Michigan. After his early band directing years, Dan made a transition in his career to a purchasing agent at Bangor Cooler in Hartford, Michigan. This led to a 40+ year career as a senior buyer for many different companies in Southwest Michigan. In 2018 he retired from Palisades Nuclear Plant in South Haven, Michigan. Dan also shared a love and respect for veterans and service members. He joined Buglers Across America and played taps for veterans and memorial services for Post 49 American Legion in South Haven, Michigan. Dan's faith was central to his life. He was the pastor at the Free Methodist Church in South Haven, MI, for three years, and served as an elder at the Bangor Church of Christ. Most importantly, Dan sought to share the love of Christ with all he met, ensuring that light and love spread throughout his community. He was fond of the verse "May the Lord Bless you and keep you, and make his face shine upon you." This was Dan's motto with all whom he met. His lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.’ Matthew 25:23 KJ21[1.1] Dan was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Katharine Farmer and his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Jerry Rothe. He is survived by his brother Jeffrey (Ramona) Farmer of Puyallup, Washington, his wife Lynne Farmer of Boerne, Texas, his children Jennifer Farmer of Boerne, Texas, Joshua Farmer of Denver, Colorado, and Mattthew (Kristen) Farmer of Holland, Michigan, his grandchildren Caden, Layne and Asher Bugarske, Brooks and Malia Farmer, Alexandra and Veronica Berger, and his niece Sara and her fiancee Jim. Dan greatly loved his many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dan’s memorial service will be held November 14th, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm - 3:00pm, followed by a service at 3:00pm. Memorials in Dan’s honor may be made to the Bangor Church of Christ (Bangor, MI), Inspired Care Solutions (Boerne, TX) or Alamo Hospice (Boerne, Tx).
