David Doxey

David Doxey 12/25/54 – 7/29/24 David Doxey was called home to the Lord on Monday July 29, 2024 surrounded by his dear wife Chris and loving family. Dave was born and raised in Gobles Michigan, the second youngest of four siblings. He graduated from Gobles High School in 1973, after which he met the love of his life Chris (Teen) Gilbert. Married in 1987, they were married almost 37 years. While not blessed with biological children, Dave and Teen had many nieces and nephews that they counted as their adopted children, loving and spoiling them as if they were their own. Teen and Dave shared a special marital bond; more than mere husband and wife, they were soul mates. Teen first laid eyes on Dave when she was 12 years old, and their love story led them to marriage over a decade later. The adventure of their married life led them on a journey from Michigan to Florida and back again. The highs of life included every anniversary, birthday, and days spent with friends and family. While the lows were few, a particular low included the day Teen totaled Dave’s ’74 Corvette T-top; while she was ok, this was a day where the promises of a loving relationship were tested to the limits of Dave’s sanity. While Dave worked in many skilled trades throughout his life, his true passion was working with cars and engines. Never one to turn down a conversation about cars, he could often be found on the fringes of family gatherings engrossed in a discussion with someone about the newest upgrades he made to his 1969 Corvette Stingray, or giving advice to family members about how to fix various mechanical issues. His wealth of mechanical knowledge was passed down to his nieces and nephews, and most recently, his great nieces and nephews. One of his great nephews shared a particularly fond memory of Dave, when Uncle Dave helped him rebuild the top end of his Yamaha dirt bike. This is often where you would find Dave: puttering around the house and barns, tinkering with his cars and toys, finding projects around the house, and always keeping himself busy. Dave had a fondness for golf, and he was known for his expertise in all things bugs and reptiles. Dave will be particularly remembered for his dry sense of humor, his commitment to his family, and his quickness to laugh at a self-effacing joke. His nieces and nephews took particular advantage of the latter, often poking fun of the fact that Dave was nearly deaf in both ears, which frequently required a yell or shout to get his attention. David was preceded in death by his father, Clare Doxey. He is survived by his wife, Chris; mother, Joan; brothers, Terry (Christine) and Mark (Cindy); sisters, Karen and Connie (Bob) and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will held Friday, August 2, 11 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw. According to his wishes cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Paw Paw, Michigan.
