James Post

James “Jim" Post went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2025, at the age of 92, due to complications of dementia. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Debbie. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, of 60 years, sons and daughters Peter, John (Elena Bravo), Maria (Troy Tooker), and Rena (Gregg Baxter); grandchildren Christen, Jessica, Brittany (Cody Watkins), Jon (Maria Dangremond) James (Michelle Briand), Katrina (Drew Kapture) Destiny (Bryan Tyler), Nikki and Mack; and great grandchildren Winter, Emmett, Anneke, Marieke, Ellieke and Owen. Born Jent Post in Sexbierum, Friesland, Jim immigrated from the Netherlands in 1952, sponsored by his oldest brother. He peddled eggs in the neighborhoods of Chicago and milked cows in California until he finally settled near a Dutch enclave in Vermont and started a dairy farm in the harsh New England winters. He convinced his young sweetheart, Geertje (Gayle), to immigrate from the Netherlands and join him to work on the farm. In 1980, the call of the pure teaching of the Word convinced him to move to Michigan to a new dairy farm in Allegan. During his retirement, he converted silos into a multi-unit apartment building and ran a RV storage operation. He worked until he was in his 80s. He was most proud of his church affiliation and dedication to the Word of God. He was a devout member of the Vergennes CRC in Vermont, the Kalamazoo PRC, Community OPC in Kalamazoo, and later both the Vestaburg Baptist Church and Spencer Mills OPC. He attended church dutifully every Sunday for decades. His work ethic and stoicism sustained him through many difficult times and he always persevered in his faith that God would provide. His spirit lives on in those he loved. A Memorial service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo, MI, on Friday, February 21st at 11AM. The family will receive visitors at a lunch reception after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests instead that this spring or summer that our friends plant a tree of their choice in their own backyard, church, school or wherever they choose in remembrance of our dad. His love for trees will live on in all of you.
