Marvin H. Voss

Retired U.S. Postal Worker of over 30 years and Michigan Air National Guard Technical Sgt. Marvin Harold Voss passed away December 15, 2024. He was born on July 15, 1940, in Breedsville, MI. In 1960, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and then transitioned to the Michigan Air National Guard in Battle Creek until 1988, spending over 25 years as a Technical Sergeant. However, he was best known as “Marvelous Marv the Magnificent Mailman,” who delivered mail for over 30 years, the majority of those in Allegan, Michigan. He was known for his conviviality and generosity as a postal worker and community member, always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. After his retirement from the U.S. in 2000, Marvin became the maintenance person at Camp Kidwell in Bloomingdale, Michigan. He loved caring for the grounds, the facilities and making the camp experience the best it could be for campers, staff and community. Marvin was a civil servant and a steward of the land his whole life. When he was not delivering mail, he was caring for his 90 acre farm in Cheshire Township, Allegan, MI where he raised beef cattle, horses, chickens and his family. He found pleasure in the simple things in life, from mending fences to building barns to working in the 4-H barn at the Allegan County Fair. He served as an elected Cheshire Township Trustee for nearly 20 years, serving on the Zoning and Planning Board for most of that time. He also served on several 4-H boards and volunteered at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Allegan, MI. He is survived by his three children: daughter Heather (Henry) Barta of Holly, MI; daughter Nanette (Shawn Herlihy) Voss of Eureka, CA; son Luke Voss of Allegan, MI; and brother William Voss of Plainwell, MI. Marvin is also survived by his 2 grandchildren, Lily and Finnley Herlihy. There will be a Visitation, December 27, 4-7 pm at the Episcopal Church of Good Shepherd at 101 N. Walnut St. Allegan, MI. A memorial service will be held December 28, 11 am also at the Episcopal Church of Good Shepherd.
