Nancy A. Anthony

Nancy (Baird) Anthony passed away on June 13th, 2023 in the care of Rose Arbor Hospice following a brief illness. Nancy was born in Plymouth, Ohio on May 25, 1939 to Paul and Hazel Baird. On January 31, 1959 she was united in marriage to her husband Albert “Al” Anthony. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love. Through trials and hardships, good times and bad, they remained steadfast partners and a model of what a strong marriage should be- and we will all forever miss their daily banter back and forth. She is survived by her husband Al, along with their 3 children: Dianna (Doug) Landers, Albert Anthony, and Laura (Brand) Barden; 4 grandchildren: Katy (Mark) Hills, Becky (Derek) Deschaine, Brand (Danielle Baker) Barden Jr., and Tyler (Alana) Barden; several adoring great grandchildren; her sisters Norma Miller and Mary (Robert) Harvanec, brother-in-law Richard Anthony and sister-in-law Mary (Richard) Reo; and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son; her brothers David, Charles, and Jack Baird and her sister Patricia Sobecki; her brother-in-law Donald Miller and her sister-in-law Judith Anthony. Nancy and Al moved to Bangor, MI from Ohio in 1971 where they resided and raised their children for many years. They then moved to the Paw Paw area where they have lived for the past 37 years. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She took delight in seeing her family members, and was a constant presence in both the important and the everyday events in their lives. Until the time of her illness, she could often be found rocking a sleeping grandbaby, building puzzles with her great grandchildren, or happily in the audience of dance recitals and on the sidelines of soccer games. Her great granddaughters lovingly called her “Great Grammy Fancy Nancy”, which will forever live on in our memories. Whenever they came over to visit her, she could usually be found on the floor playing with blocks or playing a competitive game of pinball with them. She loved to play Bingo and going to garage sales, and memories from Bingo games and conversations had at “Chick Fests” with the ladies in her family will bring smiles to our faces for years to come. She treasured time spent with her sisters and she loved talking to strangers wherever she went. She taught everyone how to make do with the things they had and find value in things that others were done with, something that she learned at a young age. We all have empty butter containers in our kitchen cupboards and will rethink every item that we put into a yard sale or donation bin thanks to her resourcefulness. It’s a shame that not all of us learned her ways of organizing- a skill that she was well known for in the family. We will forever miss Nancy, but memories of her will be cherished by all who were so blessed to know and to love her. A private funeral and burial will be held for the family. Donations can be made in her memory to The Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a charity that remained dear to her heart for many years.
