Shirley A. McNees

Shirley Ann McNees (Stratton), a devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved grandmother passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 86, in Grand Junction, Michigan. Born on January 30, 1939, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she was the rock of her family, the warmth and comfort we all needed, and wasn’t afraid to tell you how it was when the time had come. Shirley grew up in a bustling household, the daughter of Carrol (Jack) and Lillian Stratton (McCann), both of whom have preceded in death. She was the youngest of four children. Her life was enriched by her loving late husband, Marshall Cleavland McNees and she was a guiding light to her children: Marshall McNees Jr., Dale McNees, Rick Stevens, Penny Marshall, Sandy McNees, Shanon Sellers (Luke Grimmett), Nancy Spencer, and the late Vicki Wood (Robert Wood), Larry Stevens (Jennifer Stevens), and Norman McNees. Her unconditional love, affection and support will live on not only through them but also through her 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and a couple of great-great-grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She most enjoyed crocheting and being outside planting flowers. In her heyday she rode motorcycles, golfed, and was on a bowling league. When not enjoying time with family and friends Shirley volunteered at her local churches food pantry, and also worked as a nurses’ assistant for many years. Shirley’s life was dedicated to others around her, instilling the values she held dear: love, compassion, and the importance of family. Her home was a place of warmth and a welcoming hug, where laughter was shared, and memories were made. She was the foundation of her family, a source of shelter, support, and unconditional love. Those who knew Shirley would describe her as a loving and sweet soul, with a passion for supporting and caring for others. She poured her heart into the ones she held close, leaving a lasting impression, and a desire to pass down that love from generation to generation. As we bid farewell to Shirley Ann McNees, we celebrate a life well-lived. A legacy of love and dedication that will continue to inspire and guide us. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories we share and the lives she touched. Though she may have left this earthly realm, her spirit remains, a beacon of the love and passion that defined her remarkable life. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
