Bonnie M. Poindexter

April 18, 1942 - November 23, 2020

Bonnie M Poindexter, 78, of Portage MI died November 23rd at her home in Portage. She was born 4/18/42 in South Haven MI and is the daughter of Charles Robert (Bob) Covey and Ellie May Covey. She was a CPA and had a long career in the accounting field. She was a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI and held a bachelor’s of English and master’s degrees in History and Accounting. Bonnie was much loved by her large family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Robert Covey. She is survived by her husband of 60 years ,William Poindexter Senior; her two daughters, Cindy Ewing and Tammy Daily; her son, William Poindexter Jr; her mother, Ellie Covey; her siblings, Kathy Poindexter, Betty Bongiorno, Robert Covey Jr, and Rebecca Covey; her seven grandchildren and her three great grandsons. She is a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. She touched innumerable lives with her loving, kind, and giving spirit. Many called her Mom, Aunt Bonnie or Grandma. She had a gift for making everyone feel loved and accepted. Her Faith in God was deep and evidenced in the way she lived her life. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35 KJV) She enjoyed her work as much as she enjoyed her leisure. Whether at work helping someone with their taxes or at play - visiting the casino, enjoying a game of Euchre, or just hanging out with her family and friends - she was present and happy in the moment. She is truly our angel that has gone home to heaven. She will be put to rest at Chambers Cemetery in South Haven, MI. There will be a private family service. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on 4/18/21 at her home, 8927 Austin Ct, Portage, MI 49002. The family hopes to install a bench and a tree in her honor at Lakeview Park overlooking Austin Lake, where she has lived for over 50 years. Contributions toward this can be sent to the above address.
