Melvin Lee "Red" Warnock

Melvin Lee "Red" Warnock, age 70, passed away Friday, January 20, 2006 at the V.A. Medical Center, Battle Creek following a long illness. Red was born January 26, 1935 in Umatilla, Florida, the son of Leo Samuel and Jimmie Lee (Turner) Warnock. He grew up in the Auburndale, FL area where he worked and picked oranges for Adams Packing. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his service time, he moved to Michigan where he lived most of his life in the Fennville area. After his retirement from General Electric in 1988, he lived in the Swan Lake and Scott Lake areas during the summer where he enjoyed, fishing, playing poker and partying with family and friends. In the fall, he would travel to Florida to be with family and friends living there. He was able to fulfill several of his dreams, such as going to Las Vegas, traveling to California to attend the "Price is Right" and shake Bob's hand, and see his baby sister get married. He instilled good work ethics in his children and taught them how to dance and enjoy life. Red also enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to fish and play poker using matchsticks. He was a very social person who enjoyed being the life of the party and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Surviving are 5 children, Patricia (John) DeJonge of Fennville, Melvina (Randall) Green of Grand Haven, Debra (Terry) Francik of Grand Haven, Melvin (Tracey) Warnock of Galesburg, Kevin Warnock of Holland; the mother of his children, Nellie Brink; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joyce Brown of Auburndale, FL, Kitty (Jim) Shape of Lake Mary, FL; 6 brothers, Leo (Zelma) Warnock of Wauchula, FL, Bobby (Eloise) Warnock of Alturas, FL, John (Francis) Warnock of Zolfo Springs, FL, Walter Warnock of Auburndale, FL, Richard (Camay) Warnock of Zolfo Springs, FL, Billy (Carol) Warnock of Florida; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Warnock.
