Nellie J. Berryman

Nellie Jewell Berryman age 93, was born July 6, 1932, in Lexington Kentucky to Jewell and Edith (Lawson) Garlen. Nellie left this world peacefully to be with her Lord, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia, reflecting the love and strength she carried throughout her life. Nellie spent the last year at Brookdale Senior Living Troy, with the last four months in Clare Bridge Memory Care. Nellie has always had a beautiful smile that radiated her Christ like unconditional love for everyone. Family was always a priority in her life. Growing up her family moved often, living in Kentucky, Detroit, Indiana, Georgia and Florida. She met Daniel Berryman in Indiana and they married and moved to the Detroit area near her sisters. Nellie lived to serve others, her family was her life. She was a great listener and her nieces and nephews turned to her for guidance and advice. She was a foster parent for Allegan County, touching many young lives, specializing in taking in sibling groups, so children would get to stay together. She began fostering special needs children in her 50’s. They moved to Florida and would split their time between there and Michigan. She joined Tabernacle Baptist Church Orlando and built a strong church family. Pastor Ware hired her to manage the school cafeteria and she continued to serve children through planning, cooking and serving lunches well into her 80’s! She enjoyed children, traveling, cooking and reading anything and everything. She loved the Lord and enjoyed learning about the Bible, attending church and Sunday school. Her greatest wish was that her family and friends know the Lord and she will see them all again in heaven. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, of 65 years, Daniel Robert Berryman, five children, Lawrence, Ernest, Patricia, Daniel and Teshia. Nellie was also preceded by her sisters, Bennie Ruth, Edna, Bessie, and Donnie Jean and a brother Lawrence. She is survived by her sister Francis Pabis, children: Donald Mark (Beverly) Berryman, Nicki Jewel (Bernard) Vogel, Kristofer (Sara) Berryman, Susan Berryman; Eleven Grandchildren, Benjamin Berryman, Rebecca Berryman, Crystal (Jay) Koosman, Lena-Andrea Blanchard, Anthony (Stefanie) Vogel, Jennifer (Nick) Prokup, Kristina (Dhruv Sengar) Vogel, Raymond (Alexa) Vogel, Hailey, Danielle and Jonathon Berryman. Nellie was blessed with ten Great Grandchildren; Sofie and Andrew Vogel, Renee and Henry Vogel, Elise, Donovan and Liam Kobett, Augustine Prokup, Rohan and Arjun Sengar. She has also been blessed with loving nieces, nephews, and many close friends throughout every season of her life. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
