V. Jean Thomas

V. Jean Thomas, age 87, of Bangor, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo. Jean was born June 21, 1923 in Alto, MI to Edward and Lillian Gorman and graduated from Bangor High School. Jean led a life of service to her family, her church, and her community. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, most recently active in the Paw Paw-Lawton Chapter #257. Jean served as Grand Organist for the Michigan Grand Chapter OES and as choir director for the the General Grand Chapter OES. Jean was a life-long Republican and charter member of the Van Buren County Republican Executive Committee and the Van Buren County Republican Women's Club. She served as campaign chairman for State Representative Bela E. Kennedy from 1971 to 1982. She was selected as the 2010 Van Buren County Republican Woman of the Year. Jean served as secretary of the Wood School Board of Education (Bangor Township School District No. 8) from 1966 to 2009. During the over 40 years that her husband was the Bangor Township Clerk, Jean served as his deputy clerk. Governor Engler appointed her to the Van Buren County Jury Board, where she served two six-year terms, including one term as chairman. Jean was a musician all of her life. She served as choir director and organist for many churches, including the Bangor Church of Christ, Covert Congregational Church, and Grand Junction Congregational Church. We rejoice that she has finally taken her place in Heaven's angelic chorus. Jean is survived by her husband, of 55 years, Roger Thomas; daughter, Vickie Bosworth, and son, Jeff Thomas, both of Palm Springs, CA; daughter, Nancy Thomas of Paw Paw; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Bosworth, and by her sister, Grace Grosse. At her request, Jean's body has been donated for medical science and a memorial service will be held at a later time.
